What is a Virtual Private Network? In telecommunications, Virtual Private Networks VPNs provide a secure, reliable and cost-effective solution for communications across a centralized network. Virtual Private Networks VPNs are used to connect multiple remote sites and users to a network anywhere where there is Internet access. Virtual Private Networks are encrypted and authenticated through networking equipment and hardware at each remote site. Virtual Private Network solutions are typically more cost-effective than private leased lines and offer greater flexibility. Virtual Private Networks VPNs data connections can be comprised of DSL, T1, T3, OCn and Ethernet.
There are several different types of Virtual Private Networks including MPLS based IP VPN, IPsec VPN and SSL IP VPN solutions. MPLS based IP VPN or MPLS IP-VPN is a Virtual Private Network over Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology. MPLS IP VPN is scalable, secure and supports Quality of Service (QoS) for traffic engineering. IPsec VPN provides a Layer 3 VPN connection and is highly cost effective. SSL IP-VPN is used in remote access rather than site-to-site VPNs. SSL IP VPN supports only SSL applications which includes email and other applications.

What is cloud computing service? In telecommunications, cloud computing refers to Internet based computing also known as virtualization, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and devices on-demand in the cloud. The cloud is a reference to the Internet. Business cloud computing services directly contrast with traditional computing as there is no need to install applications or save files to a personal computer. A common example of cloud computing service is Yahoo email or Gmail. Users do not need software or a server to use the email service.
There are several segments associated with business cloud computing services which include the following: (1) applications, (2) platforms and (3) infrastructure. The applications refer to the on-demand software also referred to as Software as a Service (SaaS). There are several forms of payments including subscription fees and licensing. Within cloud computing services, platforms are product offerings used to deploy to the Internet. Active platforms allow the end user to access applications from centralized servers using the Internet. For example, Microsoft's cloud computing platform is Windows Live and Rackspace has cloudservers, cloudsites and cloudfiles. Infrastructure plays a vital role in cloud computing services and is the backbone of the entire concept. Within cloud computing, infrastructure provides the environment necessary to allow users to build applications. Infrastructure also includes storage services for cloud computing.

What is DWDM? In telecommunications, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is a network transport technology that allows data from different sources to combine together over an optical fiber with each signal being carried at the same time on its own light wavelength. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing is also commonly referred to as DWDM, Optical Wavelength, Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM), Network Multiplexing and Optical Transport Network. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) allows businesses to interconnect multiple locations with high capacity bandwidth.
With Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), up to 80 separate wavelengths of data can be multiplexed into a light-stream transmission on a single optical fiber. In a DWDM network with each channel carrying 2.5 Gbps, up to 200 billion bits per second can be delivered over DWDM fiber. With Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) allows different data formats to be transferred at different rates together. Internet Protocol (IP) data, SONET and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) data all at the same time over DWDM optical fiber.

The end user can be a visitor to your website, customer, partner or employee. With a Content Distribution Network, content is a reference for web objects, online and downloadable media, software and applications, shared documents, real time streaming, HD and more.
What are the benefits of a Content Distribution Network? There are many advantages to Content Distribution Networks including the ability to maximize bandwidth utilization. This occurs by providing content to end users through multiple targeted geographical locations instead of end users accessing only your centralized server. Content Distribution Services result in greater network performance by reducing bottlenecks and network congestion due to a lack of bandwidth availability. Content Distribution Networks are ideal for http, interactive web media, mobile media, online advertising, streaming media and applications.

What is VPLS? In telecommunications, Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) is a Layer 2 Ethernet Virtual Private Network (VPN) enabling the connection of multiple Ethernet sites over MPLS private or metro networks. With Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS, all sites appear to be on the same LAN regardless of their geographical location. Furthermore, each site has its own Ethernet VPLS that is completed segregated from other customers across the share carrier network. Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS was created to overcome the limitations and challenges posed by ATM and Frame Relay which included providing protocol transparent, any-to-any, fully meshed network across a Wide Area Network (WAN).
Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS is based on native Ethernet which simplifies the LAN/WAN boundary for both carriers and customers. Therefore, Virtual Private LAN Service allows for rapid provisioning with the flexibility to add or change bandwidth at any time because the service bandwidth is not tied to the physical interface. Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS supports a wide range of bandwidth speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 1 Gbps in increments of 1 Mbps.
There are several benefits associated with Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS. Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS is transparent, protocol independent and offers a multipoint solution with a shared bandwidth pool for remote sites. With Virtual Private LAN Service, you are in complete control of switching and routing between sites. However, Virtual Private LAN Service VPLS offer a more simplistic approach to Wide Area Networking and therefore offers ease of management. Furthermore, Virtual Private LAN Service is cost-effective and offers scalability not found in other networking technologies.
What is point to point? In telecommunications, point to point service is a dedicated circuit or private switching arrangement with predefined transmission paths. Point to point networks, also referred to as PPT networks, are used by businesses to connect two or more locations. Point to point service offers greater reliability, security and flexibility when it comes to your business communications. With a point to point network, your business will experience lower latency and network congestion as a result of the service using a dedicated private circuit rather than a public or shared network.
As briefly mentioned above, point to point service offers greater flexibility and a point to point can be provisioned to carry various transport services. With point to point service, your business can choose from a point to point T1, point to point T3, Ethernet point to point or OCn point to point connections. With point to point, your business will be able to reduce costs by consolidating voice, data and video over a single connection. Point to point pricing is dependent on several factors including geographic location of connecting sites, point to point provider and point to point service options.

With the increasing growth of worldwide network traffic, enterprise network managers and architects look to higher-speed network technologies to meet the ever increasing bandwidth demand. Gigabit Ethernet is typically used as their backbone technology of choice. 10 Gigabit Ethernet, also known as 10GB Ethernet, 10GbE or 10 GigE, delivers the fastest ethernet connection available with speeds of 1000Mbps (megabits per second). 10 Gigabit Ethernet is ten times faster than Gigabit Ethernet. The benefits of Gigabit Ethernet technologies include low implementation costs, increased reliability, and relative simplicty of installation and maintenance. 10GB Ethernet can be delivered over fiber and copper which has reduced the costs and increased the availability of the technology.

Our 10GB Ethernet Specialists provide Free Consulting to help guide you throughout the entire process from generating multiple quotes, selecting carrier finalists, placing orders and planning to ongoing support.
